Bearings for electric motors with a rotation speed of 500 - 1500 rpm are selected taking into account their durability and performance - at least 10,000 hours. If the installation, operation and repair of bearings were done correctly, then the service life can be significantly longer. Otherwise, it is quite possible to expect their premature failure. Then the bearings will have to be repaired or replaced.
In order to inspect the bearing, it is necessary to remove the outer and inner capsule cover. Drying and darkening of the lubricant may indicate the need for more frequent replacement. The frequency can be derived based on the operating conditions of the electric motor and the requirements for its reliability.
Features of inspection and replacement
Before inspecting the bearings, they are washed with dehydrated kerosene and wiped with a clean cloth. Next, a direct inspection is carried out. The main attention is paid to the condition of the running tracks of the rings of the rolling elements, the presence of corrosion, the absence of cracks and broken collars. The condition of the separators is also checked - deformations, cracks, riveting quality. Thus, the outer ring of the bearing must rotate absolutely freely by hand (without jamming or unnecessary noise), and the raceways must not have holes, cavities, peeling, matte surfaces, etc. If at least one of the listed defects is detected, the bearing must be replaced.
