The need to carry out work such as repairing an electric motor commutator may arise for a number of reasons, including natural wear and tear or any damage during operation. Our company accepts orders for the restoration of electric motor commutators of any level of complexity for industrial machines (traction, cranes, elevators) and household appliances (power less than 2 kW). Having all the necessary equipment and enormous experience in this matter, we guarantee efficiency and high quality of repair (restoration) of electrical units. This service can be provided as part of a package of work when carrying out major, urgent, routine repairs of electric motors in Tashkent.
The main collector faults that occur during operation of the electric motor include:
- the presence of roughness on the surface;
- the appearance of grooves (wear under the influence of brushes);
- protrusion of micanite between the copper plates;
- beating during rotation;
- short circuit of the plates.
The complexity of the repair is determined by the extent and nature of the problem that has arisen. In most cases, the collector can be repaired without complete disassembly and without removing it from the electric motor shaft.
Repairing the electric motor commutator
One of the most common reasons for repairing the electrical collector. engine - the formation of roughness on its surface.
This problem occurs when:
- Scratching of copper plates by solid particles trapped under the brushes.
- The appearance of oxide on the surface of the plates as a result of long-term operation of an electric machine in conditions of high humidity.
- Accumulation of carbon deposits due to sparking of the brushes during operation.
All of the above problems lead to deterioration of contact with the brushes, and therefore the roughness must be eliminated. In this case, restoration of the electric motor commutator is carried out by grinding with special paper (with fine-grained abrasive) until a perfectly flat and smooth surface is formed.
The second problem that requires repairing a DC motor commutator is the formation of grooves. These defects appear as a result of friction of brushes located opposite each other. Long-term operation of the electric machine in this case leads to the fact that the surface of the collector becomes wavy. To ensure uniform wear of the copper plates, the brushes should be staggered, using the length of the commutator as much as possible. The problem of the presence of grooves is eliminated by turning on a lathe without removing this functional unit from the shaft.
Micanite protrusion between the plates is a problem that arises naturally during operation of an electric motor. It is caused by the fact that the insulating material used in the production of collectors is harder than copper. The contact plates wear out under the brushes faster than the insulation. Over time, it begins to protrude above the commutator surface, worsening contact and accelerating brush wear. Protruding micanite is eliminated by expanding the space between the plates using a special tool. After micanite is removed, chamfers are made on the plates and the surface is ground.
Collector runout occurs for the following reasons:
- due to unevenly spaced plates as a result of poor assembly;
- due to incorrect armature alignment;
- due to a faulty electrical machine bearing.
Restoring the electric motor commutator In the latter case, the problem is eliminated by repairing the bearing, in the former - by turning it on a lathe. In case of incorrect alignment, the armature is re-centered using special equipment.
