Rotors and armatures in electrical machines are subject to static and dynamic balancing in conjunction with fans and other rotating parts. The electric motor rotor is balanced using special equipment to identify imbalances in the armature and rotor masses, which is often the main cause of vibration during machine operation.
The armature and rotor consist of a large number of parts and the distribution of masses in them cannot be strictly uniform. The reason for uneven distribution may be different weights or thicknesses of individual parts, protrusion of winding parts, etc. In addition, each of the parts may be unbalanced due to the displacement of its axis of rotation and inertia. In assembled armatures and rotors, the masses of individual parts can be compensated or summed, depending on their location. Rotors and armatures in which the axis of rotation does not coincide with the central axis of inertia are called unbalanced. And the rotation of dynamically and statically unbalanced armatures and rotors causes vibrations, which can adversely affect the bearings and foundation of the machine.
