Many engines operate seasonally - irrigation, grain processing, heating. Between seasons they are idle, and then must immediately get back to work. Let's look at seasonal maintenance of engines.
Preparation for the season
Before the start of the season, the engine cannot simply be turned on after a long period of inactivity:
- Measure the insulation resistance - during the downtime the winding could have become moist.
- If the insulation is low, carry out drying.
- Check the free rotation and condition of the bearings.
- Renew the lubricant.
- Make a test run at idle.
Preservation for off-season
| Measure | Why |
|---|---|
| Storage in a dry place | Protection from moisture |
| Protection from dust | Cleanliness of ventilation |
| Periodic turning shaft | Anti-acidification of bearings |
| Anti-condensation heating | Anti-humidification |
Why is this important
The main problem of seasonal engines is moisture insulation during storage. Turning on a wet motor leads to breakdown and rewind. Therefore, measuring the insulation before the season is mandatory. Scheduled diagnostics before start-up saves the season.
